What are Ultion locks?
Ultion locks are high-security euro cylinder locks designed to protect against common burglary methods such as snapping, drilling, bumping and picking.
They are widely used on uPVC, composite, aluminium and timber doors across the UK and are tested to recognised British Standards.
What does the Ultion Star rating mean?
Ultion locks are rated under the TS007 Kitemark system, which measures how secure a door cylinder is against attack.
A 1 Star cylinder offers a good level of protection but must be paired with a 2 Star security handle to achieve full compliance.
A 3 Star cylinder provides maximum protection on its own and does not require additional hardware.
What is an Ultion 1 Star lock?
An Ultion 1 Star lock is an entry-level high-security cylinder that protects against picking, bumping and drilling.
It is built with anti-tamper pins and a durable brass key system, making it a solid upgrade from standard euro cylinders.
However, to meet TS007 3 Star door security requirements, it must be used alongside a 2 Star security handle. This makes it a cost-effective option where additional door hardware is already in place.
What is an Ultion 1 Star Plus lock?
The Ultion 1 Star Plus lock builds on the standard 1 Star model by offering enhanced durability and improved key performance. It features a thicker, stronger dimple key that is more resistant to bending and snapping, along with smooth and reliable operation.
Like the 1 Star version, it still requires a 2 Star handle to achieve full TS007 3 Star compliance.
What is an Ultion 3 Star lock?
An Ultion 3 Star lock is a high-security cylinder that delivers maximum protection without the need for additional hardware.
It is designed to resist snapping attacks using Ultion’s Lockdown Mode™, which activates when the lock is attacked and prevents intruders from gaining entry.
The lock also features a reinforced molybdenum core, multiple drill protection points and a thicker key for added strength. This makes it one of the most secure options available for residential doors.
What is the main difference between Ultion 1 Star, 1 Star Plus and 3 Star locks?
The key difference is how security is achieved. Both the 1 Star and 1 Star Plus cylinders rely on being paired with a 2 Star security handle to reach maximum protection levels.
In contrast, the 3 Star cylinder provides full protection on its own.
The 1 Star Plus improves on the standard 1 Star by offering a stronger, more durable key and smoother operation, while the 3 Star adds advanced anti-snap protection and an internal lockdown mechanism.
Do Ultion locks meet UK building and security standards?
Yes, all Ultion cylinders comply with BS EN1303, which covers durability, corrosion resistance and attack testing.
They also meet TS007 standards, which are widely recognised by insurers and police-backed security initiatives.
A 3 Star cylinder meets the highest TS007 rating on its own, while a 1 Star or 1 Star Plus cylinder must be combined with a 2 Star handle to achieve the same level of compliance.
Which Ultion lock is best for my home?
If you are looking for a budget-friendly upgrade and already have a security handle, a 1 Star lock is a suitable choice.
If you want improved durability and a stronger key, the 1 Star Plus offers better performance while still remaining cost-effective.
If you’d like the highest level of protection with no reliance on additional hardware, the 3 Star lock is the best option, particularly for front doors or higher-risk entry points.
Can Ultion locks be keyed alike?
Yes, Ultion locks can be keyed alike, allowing multiple doors to be operated with a single key.
This can include mixing 1 Star and 3 Star cylinders within the same property, providing both flexibility and convenience
Are Ultion locks resistant to lock snapping?
Yes, all Ultion locks offer resistance to common attack methods, but the level varies. The 3 Star cylinder provides the highest level of anti-snap protection, including an active Lockdown Mode™ that engages during an attack.
The 1 Star and 1 Star Plus offer strong protection but rely on additional hardware to reach maximum resistance.
Are Ultion 1 Star locks secure enough on their own?
Ultion 1 Star locks provide a good level of protection against common attack methods such as picking, drilling and bumping. However, on their own, they do not meet the highest TS007 security standard.
To achieve full 3 Star door security compliance, they must be paired with a 2 Star security handle.
For this reason, they are best suited to doors that already have high-security handles installed or where a handle upgrade is planned.
Is the Ultion 1 Star Plus worth choosing over the standard 1 Star?
For most homeowners, the Ultion 1 Star Plus is a worthwhile upgrade. The main advantage is the stronger, thicker dimple key, which improves durability and reduces the risk of bending or snapping in everyday use.
While both versions require a 2 Star handle for full compliance, the 1 Star Plus offers a more premium feel and longer-term reliability, making it a better mid-range option.
Do I need a 3 Star lock for insurance purposes?
Not always, but many insurers expect doors to meet recognised security standards such as TS007. A 3 Star cylinder meets this requirement on its own, making it the simplest way to ensure compliance.
Alternatively, a 1 Star or 1 Star Plus cylinder combined with a 2 Star handle will also meet the same standard. If you are unsure, it is always best to check your specific insurance policy requirements.
What is Lockdown Mode™ and how does it work?
Lockdown Mode™ is a security feature built into Ultion 3 Star cylinders. If an intruder attempts to snap the lock, an internal mechanism activates and secures the lock from the inside, preventing access even if the outer section is compromised.
This ensures the door remains locked and secure, while still allowing the homeowner to operate the lock safely from inside the property.
Can I upgrade from a 1 Star to a 3 Star lock easily?
Yes, upgrading is straightforward. Ultion cylinders are designed to fit standard Euro cylinder doors, so replacing a 1 Star or 1 Star Plus with a 3 Star typically involves a simple cylinder swap.
This makes it easy to increase your security level without changing the entire locking system or door hardware.
Are Ultion locks suitable for all door types?
Ultion locks are compatible with most doors that use Euro cylinders, including uPVC, aluminium, composite and many timber doors. They are widely used in residential properties and are suitable for both front and back doors.
Before purchasing, it’s important to check the correct cylinder size to ensure a proper fit and optimal security.
How do Ultion locks protect against common burglary methods?
Ultion locks are engineered to resist the most common forms of attack used in the UK. These include lock snapping, drilling, bumping and picking.
The 3 Star cylinder provides the highest level of protection, with advanced anti-snap technology and internal locking mechanisms, while the 1 Star and 1 Star Plus offer strong resistance when used as part of a complete door security setup.
