Originally a detached dwelling divided into two apartments, demolished and replaced with a traditional/contemporary bespoke property.
Initially the family were looking to convert the two apartments back into the one large family home it once was. However after a survey it quickly became clear that the costs and complexities of the conversion would not make the project feasible. The family therefore decided a new dwelling which occupied a similar footprint would be the best option.
The brief to the architect was to create a property which was similar in size to the original, with the South elevation facing the town and the North facing the Royal Navel College. It was important for the property to be respectful of its neighbors in terms the style. Therefore a traditional approached was taken for the South elevation which faced the town and a more contemporary approach for the North.
Pebble grey aluminium glazing was chosen to complement the timber cladding. The front of the property features corner windows and a curtain wall, showcasing the feature staircase which rises up through the home from the basement to the top floor. The rear of the property features mainly glass, making the most of the fantastic views over the town, with bi-folding doors spanning the majority of the ground floor, french doors with opening side lights from the first floor bedrooms, opening out onto the balcony and french doors opening in on the top floor.
