This 5 bedroom farm house sits within a quiet spot within the Devon countryside. With easy access to nearby Exeter and local towns. Having been in the family for a number of years, the house was in need of modernizing and expanding to suit the growing families needs.
Sat on the footprint of the original farm house, the property was practically re-built. With the addition of a two storey extension to the front, a single storey extension to the rear and the existing heavy roof raised and replaced with an apex roof to create an additional third floor. Completely transforming the farm house.
Working with their architect large areas of glazing were incorporated into the design. Creating light airy spaces through and picturesque views of the large open garden from the living areas of the house.
Externally the front has been traditionally rendered, with vertical hanging slate on the 2 storey extension. To the rear of the property, the render continues along the first floor of the building. The single storey extension which wraps around the side and back of the house, has been finished in horizontal timber cladding, with solid oak cladding on the corner posts. The solid oak cladding have been made to look like structural oak posts. To match the oak of the existing barn conversion on the side of the house.
The farm house has been finished to a high standard throughout, with extra quality of life features added such as a controlled lighting system throughout the house and an instant boiled water tap.
3 sets of large sliding doors were chosen for the back of the back of the property. The kitchen features a 6 meter wide, triple track sliding door, which allows all three sliding panels to open, giving the homeowners flexibility with how they open the doors. The lift and slide opening mechanisms make the large panes of glass effortless to move.
The living area features two sets of sliding doors around a corner post. With the left hand door opening into a pocket on the external wall; creating a completely open space when opened.
Flush sash aluminium windows were chosen for the windows throughout the house. In a mixture of casement, top hung and fixed openings to suit each individual room. In the new extension to the front of the property a large bay has been created, upstairs and down, with windows on three sides of the room.
RAL 7032, pebble grey was chosen for the windows and doors throughout the property. Which blends perfectly into the building both inside and out.
Having been recommended Aspect Windows by their interior designer, the homeowners are extremely pleased with their new glazing and how smoothly the whole process went.
