Originally a 1960’s single storey bungalow, located within a small cul-de-sac in Exeter. The previous owners converted the property into a dormer bungalow. The now owners sought to improve the external appearance of the property, as well as increase the headroom throughout the upstairs, in order to create a more usable space.
Planning permission was granted to redevelop and extend the property. It was key that the new contemporary design, was still in keeping with the surrounding area. The properties new design features large areas of aluminium glazing, smooth white render walls and a natural slate roof. With two, two-storey gables added to the front of the property in order to get the extra headroom for the upstairs of the property. With the addition of a balcony to the rear of the house.
Looking for quality, contemporary architectural glazing and having been recommended Aspect Windows by their Architect, the homeowners booked a showroom visit in order to review their options, compare different products and talk to an expert. In order to help them decide on what the best glazing products for their project would be.
To the front of the property the homeowners choose slim and contemporary aluminium windows for the glazed gable/raked windows, the fixed windows and the casement windows. The glazed gable has been designed with a middle opening window to allow for ventilation to the room. whilst providing a contemporary look for the property.
Three lift and slide sliding doors were installed to the rear of the property. The first leading out onto the 1st floor balcony from the master bedroom. A second within the second bedroom opening out to a Juliet balcony. Then the 3rd within the downstairs bedroom, which opens out onto the terrace. The lift and slide door can be locked into a ventilation position allowing the doors to be opened a little at night for example, without having to open them fully.
All of the lift and slide doors have been installed with integral blinds. Integral blinds are fitted within the panes of glass. An ideal solution for privacy, and a neat and stylish alternative to curtains, or external blinds.
Downstairs a large expanse of glazing runs the length of the kitchen/dining/living area. Designed with sliding doors in mind. The homeowners compared the effortless opening lift and slide doors, which they had used for the bedrooms, with a premium slim sliding door, which has sightlines of just 20 mm, for this area of the property. Visiting the showroom allowed the couple of compare the two options. Being a key area of the house, where the homeowners would spend a lot of time they decided upon the slim sliding doors for the 9.2 meters wide opening. The slim sliding door consists of 4 equal sized sashes. With the two on the far sides being fixed on the inner track and the two central panes sliding on the outer track. Creating a nearly 5 meter wide opening when the doors are opened fully. With electric locking and wall switch/smart home operation
All of the glazing is finished in the same RAL 7016 Anthracite Grey colour, tying all the products together perfectly.
