A newly built contemporary property, with large sliding doors, designed to maximise the sunlight and be respectful of its neighbours.
Originally sat on this site was a rundown 1930’s timber-framed bungalow. Within zone 3 of a conservation area, renowned for its large white rendered stucco houses.
A new contemporary dwelling was to be built in its place taking design inspiration from the grandness of the nearby historic homes within the conservation area.
The scale of the house had to be considered between its single storey neighbours. The two storey house was designed to have a low aspect ratio, taking advantage of the eaves and roof cape.
The new building has been laid out in accordance with good practices in respect to daylight and sunlight. The property was designed to maximise the south facing sunlight for solar gain. Therefore the property features more windows on the south compared to the north side to minimise heat loss, all triple glazed with low U-values – helping to reduce running costs, and save energy.
A combination of small triple glazed windows and large glazed walls allow extensive natural light into the property. Carefully designed to provide varied views of the distant hills, whilst avoiding over-looking the neighbors. With slimline aluminium frames in agate grey (RAL 7038), maximising the glass area.
Large sliding doors lead out directly to the patio area, from the living room and the ground floor bedroom, allowing the garden to be enjoyed year round.
Double doors lead out onto a discrete balcony, with screening to either side to avoid overlooking onto the neighbours.
