Originally built at the turn of the century as a captain’s house. The house had been in the family for a good number of years, however was in need of renovating in order to fit the second generation family needs. Rather than trying to re-work the existing building, the homeowners decided to knock it down and start again. Having grown up in the house, there was a lot of pressure for the homeowners to get the build right.
Working closely with the conservation officer as the house is located in a conservation area, the existing house was demolished and rebuilt.
The replacement house is still very traditional in style, but now also features large contemporary glazed elements through the use of sliding doors.
The outside of the property is finished in a mixture of red stone and cream render. The red stone is continued out into the garden and the garage/pool house, tying it all together.
4 sets of sliding doors have been installed throughout the property. The kitchen/dining area features a large 6 metre wide triple track sliding door; overlooking the garden and the river and woods beyond. The triple tracks allow all three of the door panes to open. Giving the homeowners flexibility in terms of which panes they have open and in what direction they open the doors. Either side of the sliding doors are large fixed windows, creating a contemporary extension look. To the side of one of these fixed panes, is 4 small opening windows. Not only does this allow the family to open the windows for ventilation, it also creates a stunning feature.
Aluminium pressings, in the same colour as the doors and windows have been added to cover the steel corner posts, either end of the sliding doors. Helping to complete the look.
A matching sliding door set up sits on the opposite side of the house overlooking the swimming pool and straight out onto the patio area.
Two sets of smaller duo track sliding doors have been installed around a corner in the living room.
A 6.5 metre wide gable frame windows has been installed into the garage/pool house, creating a fantastic feature whilst flooding the space with light.
RAL 7030 Matt, stone grey, was chosen for the windows and doors. All pre-anodised to protect the frames from the nearby harsh marine environment.
