Set within a conservation area on the dark slate cliffs, overlooking Woolacombe beach. This expertly designed property replaces the original 1930’s home.
Sitting on the footprint of the original house, the contemporary dwelling, with its white washed walls and slate roof fits in perfectly with its neighbours. The property displays a modest appearance from the outside, which really opens up when you step inside.
The ground floor houses the 4 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms and living areas. While upstairs in the ‘open attic’ is the kitchen and dining/living area.
The key areas of the house have been arranged around the stunning views enjoyed by the property. With the views framed by floor to ceiling windows and doors.
The glazing was a key element in this properties design. To maximise the views, ensuring minimal interruptions, the slimmest sight-lines were required.
A 6 meter wide, triple track, slim sliding door was selected for the upstairs kitchen/dining area, which leads out onto the balcony. The slim sliding doors have one fixed leaf and two sliding leaves. Consequently this allows two thirds of the aperture to be opened. The doors were selected for their slim sight-lines of just 20mm throughout the visible system. As a result opened or closed the interruptions are minimal.
A 5 meter wide, triple track sliding door was also chosen for the downstairs living area. In addition to, two, 2.5 meter wide, double track, slim sliding doors for the master bedroom and bathroom. All with electric high security operation, for ease of opening.
Finished in RAL 7021 Matt – black grey, the frames virtually get lost in their surroundings.
Matching floor to ceiling windows were used throughout the rest of the property. Which includes a large 3.5 meter wide fixed window in the master bedroom, with 3 equal panes. A pre-anodised finish has been applied to the frames to help protect them in the harsh marine environment. Pre-anodisation is a treatment applied to the aluminium prior to powder coating. As a result this coating protects the paint surface from beneath, reducing the chance of bubbling and lifting of the powder coating.
Large flat roof lights were installed into the roof of the property, allowing the light within the kitchen area to be maximized whilst also enjoying the view from above.
Due to the size of the glazing and the hard to reach location, a crane and lifting equipment were required to help guide the glass into place.
