Internal Doors FAQs
What should I look for when buying an internal door?
There are many factors to consider when searching for your internal doors. Firstly, you need to consider the style you like, whether that is something contemporary or a popular steel look.
Secondly, you need to determine the material that is right for your project and budget. Aspect Windows offer aluminium internal doors and steel internal doors. Both have their merits but one may be better suited to your space than the other.
Building Regulations may dictate that you require fire-rated internal doors in certain areas of your property and this will determine what style of door you’ll need.
The style of the internal door you choose may also be determined by how you would like the door to open and the space you have available.
Internal doors aren’t limited to just traditional single doors, you can opt for a sliding door, pivot doors, or even internal bi-fold doors.
In an era of working from home, you may also want to consider the acoustic performance of an internal door if you are utilising it to soundproof a home office set-up.
What internal doors are in style right now?
Steel-look aluminium or steel internal doors are becoming an increasingly popular choice among consumers seeking a more industrial look in their homes.
Aspect Windows offer a variety of solutions in this area, with steel internal doors or steel-look internal doors on display in our showroom.
The steel-look aesthetic has surged in popularity in recent years thanks to its ability to double up as a functional internal door and as a design statement within or between rooms.
Should I choose aluminium or steel for my internal doors?
Our range of internal doors features both aluminium and steel internal doors, and both come with their individual pros and cons.
Both are excellent internal door solutions, but to determine the most suitable material for the project, you should consider your budget, sizes, lead time requirements and personal style preferences.
Aluminium internal doors can be the more affordable of the two options and are generally available on shorter lead times than steel doors.
They can be a great alternative to steel for those looking to achieve the sought-after industrial look.
Steel internal doors are undoubtedly a more premium product. This can result in a higher price per door and longer lead times compared to their aluminium alternatives.
Do all my internal doors need to be the same?
No, your internal doors do not have to all be from the same manufacturer or even the same style.
This decision could be driven by your personal style preference or dictated by building regulations.
Some areas of your property may require fire-rated internal doors. Aspect Windows can supply and install fire-rated internal steel doors that can be similarly matched to standard internal steel doors for a coherent look.
This installation in Torquay is a great example of how you can use both standard internal doors and fire-rated internal doors to satisfy both building regulations without compromising on a consistent look.
At this property, Aspect Windows installed internal doors and fire-rated internal doors.

Are lintels required when installing internal doors?
No, lintels are typically not required when installing internal doors, as they are typically installed into a stud surround. However, depending on the application within the build, a lintel may be required in other circumstances. If you would like more information about your installation and whether a lintel would be required, please don’t hesitate to contact a member of our team, and we’ll do our best to assist you.
Do my internal doors need to be fire-rated?
Building regulations dictate that internal fire-rated doors must be installed in the following areas of domestic properties:
– A two-storey house which has a door leading from an internal garage into the house.
– New-built or renovated domestic properties that have three or more storeys (including loft conversions) must have fire doors installed to every habitable room from the stairwell.
When designing your project, your architect will identify where fire-rated internal doors will be required.
If you’re replacing your current internal doors like-for-like and the existing doors are not currently fire-rated, the new doors are not required to be fire-rated.
You can replace existing internal doors with fire-rated doors (even where they are not stipulated) for additional peace of mind, but be aware that additional installation work may be required, as the dimensions of a fire-rated internal door can vary from a standard door.
