FAQ – What are bi-folding doors?

Bi-folding doors are made up of a series of panels, that concertina against a wall when slid opened, creating an uninterrupted opening.

Bi-folds, also known as folding-sliding doors are a very popular choice for patio doors. Fantastic on hot summer days, when they can be opened fully, allowing fresh air to fill the room, providing uninterrupted views, and creating the optimal indoor-outdoor living experience.

Bi-folding doors are very flexible in terms of the configuration, with many different options depending on your requirements. From 2 door sets to 10, depending on the size of the opening. With the option of having a single traffic door, which can be operated as a back door, without the need to fully open the bi-fold. There is also the option of an open corner, which fully opens two corners of a room, when the doors are open.

A couple of tips when looking for bi-folding doors; look for premium products that include good guarantees on the running mechanism and hinging hardware. As well as the quality of the gaskets at hinging points, as this will have a big impact on performance in terms of both energy efficiency and weather protection. We would also recommend looking at systems which have built-in finger protection too.
