Windows and doors are available in a wide variety of colours, with many of our systems being available in over 150 RAL colours. But with so many options how do you choose the right colour for your home?
With up to 25 years guarantee, your windows and doors will be in your home for a long time, therefore you want to choose a colour scheme that you will enjoy for years to come. There are three key areas to consider when deciding on the colour for your new windows and doors:
All homes have an architectural design that makes them unique and choosing windows that match this design aesthetic is the first step in choosing the right windows. Is your home modern or traditional? Victorian-style homes tend to suit classic colours for example, whereas modern homes can suit anything from bold to the more subtle.
Its important to choose a colour which will complement the building material used in your property. Having the door the same colour as your windows, really helps to tie it all together.
Consider the colour of your neighbors windows. You will want to ensure you choose a colour which will complement rather than clash with your neighbors.
For example with this 1980’s red brick home, the owners were originally thinking of replacing the original brown windows with white, however felt this wouldn’t work with the rest of the street. In the end the homeowners decided on anthracite grey, to create a modern look, but still be complementary to the other houses on the street. Take a look at the case study here.
The colour you choose should reflect your own personality, and how different colours make you feel. For example natural colours can be rustic and comforting, grey is timeless and classic, whereas yellow can be warm, welcoming and optimistic. Don’t forget the colour you have on the outside of your windows doesn’t have to be the same as the colour you have on the inside. Therefore you can choose an inside colour which matches the interior of your property whilst the exterior colour matches the outside.
When deciding on the colour you are going to choose, consider the following:
Darker shades of blue, plum and green are all safe bets that will make a design statement. Anthracite grey is also another safe bet, being the most popular colour it goes with most building materials, it is subtle, timeless and will suit most styles of property.
